This is the layout of our great non-touristy town of Cabrera. All very close to the ocean. What a very hospitable town. Cabreians are warm, friendly people who welcome visitors.
There are always questions about driving the Dominican Republic, some which I can answer here. From the Airport in Puerta Plata you would be driving on one road which is a newly paved road, Route 5. The unusual sights you will come to see, have mostly to to do with the most popular form of transpotation, the moped. There will be families of 5 on one moped. There will be propane tanks and lots of other interesting cargo on board. For the most part driving is safe but please always pay attention. There doesn't seem to be any rules for driving by these moped drivers. And when making a turn, put your hand out the window to indicate the turn..car drivers don't pay much attention to blinkers.
